Watch a short message from Dr. Newman

Dr. Andy Newman grew up in a "Veterinary" family. His father, stepmother, and stepfather are all practicing small animal veterinarians. With all of these great experiences and being surrounded by people who are committed to caring for animals, he could not help but grow to love the field. Some of his earliest and fondest memories are of being awoken by the train thundering past the walls of his father’s veterinary emergency clinic in Hartford, Connecticut. He would frequently spend the night there, taking in the thrilling experience of a 24-hour shift at a bustling, metropolitan veterinary hospital.

Dr. Newman spent his college years attending North Carolina State University in Raleigh. There, he graduated cum laude in 1999 with a B.S. in Zoology and went on to the NCSU College of Veterinary Medicine. He was able to tailor his education to suit his interests which included special studies involving avian, reptile, amphibian and aquatic animal medicine and surgery. Dr. Newman was an active member in the Turtle Team, where students donated their time to the care of injured wildlife, turtles and tortoises. He graduated in 2004 as a member of the Phi Beta Kappa and Phi Zeta honor societies and has worked as a veterinarian in our community since then.

Currently Dr. Newman resides in Longwood with his wife and sons, Jack and Charlie. They share their home with an ten year old Saluki named Caliph, a eighteen year old Maine Coon named Psycho Kitty, and Sidney a Senegal parrot. What "me time" he has is enjoyed playing golf, watching movies, and reading historical fiction.

New to the WPVH Doctor Team

Dr Charli Jane Braun:

Dr. Charli Braun earned her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Florida in Gainesville. Her interest in exotic and small animal medicine has led her to join our Doctor team here at Winter Park Veterinary Hospital.

Following completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in the Biological Sciences from the University of West Florida, she was accepted into the Doctorate program for veterinary medicine at the University of Florida. After graduating in 2010, she participated in an internship at the University of Missouri, which is where her focus on small animal medicine developed.

An avid scholar, Dr. Braun received the Veterinary Medical Board of Directors Scholarship from UF, she was a Merck-Merial Research Scholar, and won the University of Florida’s College of Veterinary Medicine Clinical Proficiency Award!

Dr. Braun originates from the panhandle of Florida, but being the daughter of a military veteran, she spent years living in many parts of the country and abroad. She’s spent parts of her life in Virginia, California, Georgia and Saudi Arabia!

She moved to the Orlando area in 2011, where she looked to join a veterinary team and share her wealth of knowledge and experience. She now lives in the Winter Park area with her husband, Eric, who is a native of the Winter Park area.

They share their home with “Parker”.  Parker is a one and a half year old yellow lab with lots of energy to burn, so you may often find them at Fleet People’s Park on the weekends!! Dr. Braun also shares her home with a gorgeous tortoiseshell kitty named Anabelle. Left abandoned in a home by her previous owners, Anabelle appreciates her new companions (even Parker)!

Both Dr. Braun and her husband also enjoy riding and spending time with their horses, Honor and Sinasa (pronounced Sinasha).
